Identity:

Sir John Charles Sigismund Day, Q. C., was called to the bar in 1849. He became a Q. C. in 1882 and later a Justice of the Queen's Bench Division of the High Court.

Life:

He was a collector, and bought Nocturne in Blue and Gold: Valparaiso Bay y076 in 1892 but had sold it by 1898. His art collection was sold in May 1909.
