Date of birth: 1847
Date of death: 1930.07.12

Identity:

Rt. Hon. Jonathan Hogg was a businessman and collector. He married Margaret Pease in 1876.

Life:

Hogg was a merchant and chairman of the firm of William Hogg & Co., Dublin. He was Director of the Bank of Ireland from 1901-02. He is mentioned in a letter from Whistler on 19 December 1884 to William Booth Pearsall (#08108) as having been the purchaser of two watercolours, Nocturne in grey and gold - Piccadilly m0862 and Sunrise; gold and grey m0917. Apparently, Hogg was amused that after the exhibition, Whistler sent Hogg a receipt of the work, since he was notorious for neglecting business matters.
