He was a painter and printmaker.

Life:

He studied in the studio of Diogène Maillart, the Académie Julian, and the École des Beaux-Arts. In 1890,h e met Pierre Bonnard and Paul Sérusier, and joined the Nabis, a group of art students inspired by the synthetism of Gauguin, and contributed to their exhibitions at the Gallery of Le Barc de Boutteville.

He painted many decorative interiors, streets and gardens, and later, portraits, including, in 1912, Théodore Duret in his Study, a commissioned portrait that shows Whistler's Arrangement en couleur chair et noir: Portrait de Théodore Duret y252 in the background.
