Whistler's 'Aunt Winnie' was Eliza Isabella Winstanley (1788-1857), the daughter of Alicia Clunie and Daniel McNeill. She was the half-sister of Whistler's mother Anna Matilda Whistler (1804-1881). She was born in the Bahamas and died in Preston. She married first, Robert Wellwood, Edinburgh, and secondly, John Winstanley: they lived in Preston, Lancashire. She never had any children.
