This is probably a study for rosettes on the dress in Symphony in Flesh Colour and Pink: Portrait of Mrs Frances Leyland y106. The instructions are in French, as they are on another drawing Rosettes m0435.

- 1939: bequeathed to Tulane University, New Orleans;
- 1941: bought in April with 20 other works, through the Macdonald Gallery, New York, to Grenville Lindell Winthrop (1864-1943);
- 1943: bequeathed to the Fogg Art Museum.
The early provenance is unknown.
