- 1872: probably given to the sitter, Helen Rose Huth (1837-1924), later Mrs A. B. How;
- 1924: bequeathed to her husband, Archibald Barwell How (1860-1947), of Exeter College, Oxford;
- 1941: presented by A. B. How to the Ashmolean Museum.
