This shows the arched panels in South Kensington Museum (now the Victoria and Albert Museum, London) in which the portraits of artists and sculptors were to be placed. Whistler's projected panels were never completed.

It is not certain who drew this sketch; it could have been drawn by Henry Cole (1808-1882) or another colleague to indicate the placing of the projected figures.
It has not, as far as is known, been exhibited.
