• ca 1879: given by Whistler to Carlo Pellegrini (1839-1889).
• 1922: possibly bought from H. L. Wynne by Colnaghi's, London art dealers, and sold on 26 July to Daniel H. Farr, Philadelphia art dealer;
• 1922: bought on 13 December fromAlbert Louis Roullier (1858-1920), Chicago art dealer, by Walter Stanton Brewster (1872-1954);
• 1933: given to the Art Institute of Chicago.
