The town of Hastings on the English coast. An inscription written in an unknown hand on the verso reads 'The view is from near Minnis Rock just above the London Road.'

1953: after his death, sold at auction, Sotheby's, London, 18 November 1953 (lot 65) as 'View of Hastings' and bought by J. Leger, London dealers.
