Lamplight, British Architect, 16 December 1881, repr. f.p. 633
Edward William Godwin (1833-1886) wrote in his diary on 3 November 1881: 'To Whistlers promised me sketch for B. A.'. 1 The drawing was published in the British Architect on 16 December 1881.
Fully catalogued in MacDonald 1995 (cat. rais.) [more] (cat. no. 866).

Possibly Beatrice Philip (Mrs E. W. Godwin, Mrs J. McN. Whistler) (1857-1896), who was then the wife of Edward William Godwin (1833-1886). Godwin was a regular contributor to the British Architect, in which this drawing was reproduced. Alternatively it could be Maud Franklin (1857-1939), who was still Whistler's partner and chief model.

See MacDonald 1995 (cat. rais.) [more] (cat. no. 866).
The later provenance is unknown.
