Not identified. Possible locations include Combe Hall Farm, Norburton, Kingston on Thames (residence of Janey Sevilla Campbell (Lady Archibald Campbell) (ca 1846-d.1923)), Moreby Hall in Yorkshire, the home of Thomas Henry Preston (1817-1906), and near St Ives in Cornwall.

Provenance

• 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death in 1903 and bequeathed to his sister-in-law Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958);
• 1955: 'Landscape with farm buildings amid trees' sold to Colnaghi's, London dealers, on 26 October (#21136);
• 1955: bought by the Fitzwilliam Museum from the R. H. Biffen Fund on 26 November 1955.
