The town of Dordrecht, on the Maas, in the Netherlands. The view (now slightly obscured by trees and boats) shows the Wijnhaven from the Boomstraat. ¹

It is painted with great delicacy, using pale washes for the sky and water; details of the houses and figures were painted neatly and precisely with a small pointed brush.

• 1931: sold at auction, AAA, New York, 25 March 1931 (lot 13, repr.), bought by Harold K. Hochschild (1892-1981);
• 1981: bequeathed to a private collection;
• 2005: sold at auction, Christie's, New York, 19 May 2005 (lot 62);
• 2006: bought by Paula Crane Lunder (b. 1935) and Peter H. Lunder (b. 1933);
• 2006: given to Colby College Museum of Art, The Lunder Collection.
