Possibly the Spanish painter and guitarist Dario de Regoyos y Valdes (1857-1913), who probably met met Whistler at the first exhibition of Les XX in Brussels in 1884: both men exhibited with the society.

Provenance

• 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death and bequeathed to Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958);
• 1935: given by Miss Philip to the University of Glasgow.
