The design was intended for a lavatory for Ernest George Brown (1851-1915). At this date he was living in Dulwich, where his son Oliver was born in 1885, and Helen in 1887. By 1891 he and his family were living in Wandsworth, at 39 Criffel Avenue.
This was a design for wall decorations at the house of Ernest George Brown (1851-1915). The accompanying letter reads:
[p. 1] 'Here is what I promised -
[p. 2] ... Here is list of colors -
[p. 3] Distemper - First one coat of light grey (made of simple white wash and a little Ivory black - not the vegetable black of the trade - with a very little yellow ochre) over ceiling and walls - strongly sized -
