The Terrace, Luxembourg was drawn on the back of a letter from David Croal Thomson (1855-1930) to Whistler dated 25 March 1892. 1 The letter is not related to the drawing.

The drawing shows figures standing on one of the terraces in the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris. It is a similar scene to that shown in the lithographs The Pantheon, from the terrace of the Luxembourg Gardens c070 and The Terrace, Luxembourg c087, which were sent to Thomas Way (1837-1915) for transfer on 15 November 1893 and 19 July 1894 respectively.
