Possibly painted in September 1893. On 20 October 1893 Whistler told the London art dealer David Croal Thomson (1855-1930), 'I have also a little water colour - I think I showed it to you - sea piece - If you want it you can let me know.' ¹

It was catalogued in MacDonald 1995 (cat. rais.) [more] (cat. no. 1350), dated incorrectly as 1892.
