Although based on a design by Whistler this does not look so much like his work as do the other r.: Designs for monogram for ISSPG ; v.: Tracing of monogram for ISSPG m1537. It may have been drawn by Joseph Pennell (1860-1926), based on Whistler's design.

Conservation History

There are two pin holes at top and bottom, and one at centre left.

• 1898: possibly given by Whistler to Joseph Pennell (1860-1926);
• 1917: given by Joseph and Elizabeth Robins Pennell (1855-1936) to the Library of Congress.

Exhibitions

It was not exhibited in Whistler's lifetime.
