- 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death, and bequeathed to his ward and executrix, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) ;
- 1955: sold by Miss R. Birnie Philip to Colnaghi's, London art dealers, 25 June 1955;
- 1956: bought on 9 May 1956 by Professor James Anthony Betts (1897-1980) for the University of Reading.
