Subject

Description

Note en violet – La Lettre was a figure subject, described by Fontainas as a woman on a sofa, 'la tête charmante qui s'appuie au coussins' (her charming head leaning on cushions) and her foot extended. 1 No extant pastel fits this description exactly, though it is likely it was similar to a nude study such as Nude model reclining m1606.
