Bleu et or: Honfleur probably dates from the mid-1880s and was first exhibited in 1887. 1

Grey and Gold: Honfleur, Whereabouts unknown
It is possible it was a watercolour, and should be identified with Grey and Gold: Honfleur m0988, as suggested by MacDonald in 1995. 2

Bleu et or: Honfleur, Whereabouts unknown

Grey and Gold: Honfleur, Whereabouts unknown
Only one title is known:
Unknown.
Honfleur, an old and important port and town in France.
Unfortunately there is no clue as to whether Bleu et or: Honfleur showed the sea, the port, or buildings, though the title might suggest the sea.

Grey and Gold: Honfleur, whereabouts unknown
If Bleu et or: Honfleur is, as is possible, Grey and Gold: Honfleur m0988, then it showed the tall narrow houses along the side of the harbour.
Only two works by Whistler have been identified as done in Honfleur, Grey and Gold: Honfleur m0988, which may indeed be this painting, and a later oil, Brown and Gold: The Curé's Little Class y455.

Grey and Gold: Honfleur, Whereabouts unknown
It is not known if this was an oil or watercolour. Recorded watercolours of Honfleur include Blue and Silver: Honfleur m0987 and Grey and Gold: Honfleur m0988 (the only one identified, but as yet unlocated), which may be this work, and is reproduced above.
