Date

Draped Nude may date from 1900, and was recorded in the following year, when Whistler's sister-in-law, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958), listed among small panels in his studio at 8 Fitzroy Street on 16 February 1901, 'Draped nude figure. (Eva).' 1

The panel has not been located but is dated from Whistler's known association with the model, Eva Victoria Carrington (1887-1979), who was posing around 1900. On 30 October 1900, for instance, Whistler asked Miss Birnie Philip to arrange for the studio in Fitzroy Street to be ready for Eva, 'I shall write a line to Mrs Burkitt that they may have a fire any how - and I will tell them to keep Eva that you may have her by you for a moment so as to keep every thing up.' 2
