Grey Clothes Shop has not been identified and therefore cannot be dated precisely; however, it may date from between 1895 and 1900. 1 On 16 February 1901 Whistler’s sister-in- law, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958), listed among small panels in Whistler’s studio at 8 Fitzroy Street ‘Grey clothes shop.' 2
