Andrew McLaren Young Richmond Professor of Fine Art at the University from 1965 to 1975. He and his wife Marjory had two children.
Andrew McLaren Young established a Department of Fine Art in the University of Glasgow, and was instrumental in building up the art collection of the Hunterian and establishing a purpose built gallery for it. His own research concentrated on the two major collections in the University, that of James McNeill Whistler, and of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. He was conducting research on the catalogue raisonné of Whistler's paintings when he died, and it was completed by his colleagues in 1980.
