Identity:

Thomas Cochran (1871–1936) was a banker, vice-president, Astor Trust Company, 1906–1914, and then president of the Liberty National Bank of New York. He became a partner in J.P. Morgan & Company in 1917

Life:

He was educated at Phillips Andover and at Yale University. In 1931, Cochran funded the creation of the Addison Gallery of American Art at his former school, Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass (class of 1890). He bought Brown and Silver: Old Battersea Bridge y033 and passed it to Cornelius Newton Bliss (1833-1911) , Washington, D.C., who presented it to the Addison Gallery of American Art.
