William Ayerst Ingram, marine and landscape painter, was the son of the Reverand G. S. Ingram.
Life:
Scottish marine and landscape painter in oil and watercolour. He studied under J. Steeple and A. W. Weedon. Ingram was affilitated with the Royal Society of British Artists in the 1880s; and supported Whistler in his battle to remain President in 1888. He travelled widely and was President of the Royal British Colonial Society of Artists in 1888, and a founder and President of the Anglo-Australian Society. He was also a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Oil-Colours, 1906 and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, 1907. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1880; the Royal Society of British Artists; New Watercolour Society, 1886; Fine Art Society, 1888 and 1902; and at Dowdeswell's in 1911 and 1914.
