Alfred Edward Newton was a Philadelphia businessman, book collector, and popular writer of books on literature and book collecting. He lived in Philadelphia, PA.
In 1922 he bought La Mère Gérard (1) y026. His son, E. Swift Newton sold his library of over 10,000 books at Parke Bernet Galleries, 16-18 April 1941, and sold the Whistler painting in 1968.
