George Augustus Sala was an artist, journalist and critic. Sala was married twice, to Harriet in September 1859 and to Bessie Stannard in 1891.
Journalist, critic and illustrator, Sala was the art critic of the Daily Telegraph between about the 1860s and 1890s and a friend of Whistler. He also wrote for Household Words and All the Year Round. He was a war correspondent during the Crimean War (1854-6), the American Civil War (1861-1865) and a foreign correspondent. He lived at 12 The Terrace, Putney from late 1867 to 1876 and 32 Great College Street, Camden Town in 1869.
