Identity:

John Gibb Ure, brother of Lord Strathclyde (1853-1928), ran the Crown Flour Mills in Glasgow. His father was the Glasgow Lord Provost John Ure (1825–1901), a successful businessman, and builder and 30-year resident of the Helensburgh seafront mansion Cairndhu. His mother was Isabella, daughter of John Gibb of Glasgow.

J.G. Ure, flour merchant and collector, married Agnes Ross Auld on 5 June 1879 and lived at Rockbank, 40 East Clyde Street. By 1891 they had four children, Mabel aged 10, Katherine, 8, John ('Iain'), 5, and Archibald, 3. Iain died in Italy in 1918.

Life:

He owned A Freshening Breeze y275 by 1905. It was sold with his collection at Christie's, London, 29 April 1911.
