Life:
he was the editor of The Studio and writer on art, associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement. He lived at 10 Theresa Terrace, Ravenscourt Park.
A sketch, Sketch of 'The Whitesmiths, Impasse des Carmélites' m1417, is on a letter Whistler wrote to Gleeson White, recommending a recent lithograph, 'Le Rétameuse de l'Impasse' (The Whitesmiths, Impasse des Carmélites; C.92) for publication in The Studio, instead of Nursemaids: Les Bonnes du Luxembourg (C.81) which was to be published in The Art Journal (December 1894, f. p. 362). In the end, Gleeson White, who had already published Gants de Suède (C.35) (The Studio, vol. 3, April 1894, f. p. 20) agreed to publish The Long Gallery, Louvre (C.86) (The Studio, vol. 3, September 1894, f. p. 90).
