Archibald James Stuart-Wortley was a sporting and portrait painter.
Stuart-Wortley first received tuition in painting from John Everett Millais in 1874. He went on to develop a successful career, particularly in portraiture, and became a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy, Grosvenor Gallery and New Gallery. In 1889, he became the first President of the Society of Portrait Painters. He was closely associated with Whistler, particularly in promoting the exhibitions of the SPP.
