Provenance

  • 1907: bought from Mrs R. Gurney on 27 March by Agnew's, London art dealers, and sold on 2 April to Wunderlich's, New York art dealers.
  • Before 1935: owned by Henry Harper Benedict (1844-1935);
  • 1935: bequeathed to his widow, Katherine Geddes Benedict (1879-1961), and daughter, Mrs James Douglass Sharpe;
  • 1962: sold at auction, Sotheby's, London, 21 November 1962 (lot 10) and bought by Weitzner, art dealer, for Agnew's, who sold it to J. Biddle;
  • 1993: bought by a private collector, Philadelphia.
  • 2009: given by Paula Crane Lunder (b. 1935) and Peter H. Lunder (b. 1933) to the Colby College Museum of Art.
