1920: bought from Albert Eugene Gallatin (1882-1952)New York, by Knoedler's, New York dealers, and sold to Charles B. Eddy (1872-1951), Plainfield, NJ, in March (#WC1379 and 1470) but returned;

1921: on 26 July, Colnaghi, London dealers, took half shares in the drawing;

1928: bought by Charles Sessler (1854-1935), dealer, Philadelphia, who sold it to Lessing Julius Rosenwald (1891-1971) in December 1928;

1943: given to the National Gallery of Art, but still housed with the Rosenwald Collection at Alverthorpe;

1980: moved to the National Gallery of Art.
