  • 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death and bequeathed to Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958);
  • 1943: sold by Miss Philip to Colnaghi's, London art dealers;
  • 1943: sold to David McAdam Eccles, 1st Viscount Eccles (1904-1999);
  • 1961: bought by Agnew's, London dealers;
  • 1962: sold to a private collector;
  • 1970: given to the Rhode Island school of Design.
