  • 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death and bequeathed to his sister-in-law, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958);
  • 1943: sold by Miss Birnie Philip to Colnaghi's, London, 13 May 1943;
  • 1943: bought by the National Art Collections Fund and given to the Victoria and Albert Museum.
