Provenance

  • 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death, and bequeathed to his ward and executrix, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) ;
  • 1956: bought on 11 May by Colnaghi's, London art dealers;
  • 1957: bought on 5 November by Alister Mathews (1907-1985), art dealer, Bournemouth.
