Provenance

  • 1903: in the artist's studio at his death and bequeathed to his sister-in-law and executrix, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958);
  • 1956: bought on 11 May by P. & D. Colnaghi & Co., Ltd, London art dealers;
  • 1957: sold in July to Philip Hofer, Boston, MA.
  • From 1984: on loan to the Fogg Art Museum;
  • 1989: bequeathed by Aimée Lamb (1893-1989) and Rosamond Lamb (1898-1989) to the Fogg Art Museum, and accessioned by the museum in 1993.
