  • 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death and bequeathed to his sister-in-law Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958);
  • 1955: sold on 25 June to Colnaghi's, London art dealers, who sold it on 25 June to a private collector.
  • 2000: sold at auction, Sotheby's, London, 6 December 2000 (lot 35) as 'The Boatmen, Ajaccio'.
  • 2004: sold at auction, Sotheby's, London, 17 November 2004 (lot 17) as 'The Boatmen, Ajaccio'.
