Sands: Blue Note dates from shortly before the first exhibition at 'Notes' - 'Harmonies' - 'Nocturnes', Messrs Dowdeswell, London, 1884 (cat. no. 4). 1 It was probably painted in St Ives, Cornwall, between January and March 1884.
