Two possible titles have been suggested:

• Possibly 'Maud - green scarf' (1886/1892, Whistler). 1
• 'Maud' (1980, YMSM). 2

In an undated list Whistler recorded a portrait of Maud Franklin as 'Maud - green scarf', but there is no other record of this painting. 3

Sitter

Maud Franklin (1857-1939), who had posed for many of Whistler's most important portraits, including Arrangement in Black and Brown: The Fur Jacket [YMSM 181] and Arrangement in White and Black [YMSM 185].
