Street scene may date from around 1890, but could date from as late as 1901. The technique and butterfly are consistent with a late date. However, if, as has been suggested, it was owned by Joshua Hutchinson Hutchinson (b. ca 1829-d.1891) , it would necessarily date from before 1891.

It is catalogued in MacDonald 1995 (cat. rais.) [more] (cat. no. 1589), where it was dated '1899/1900'; this is incorrect if, has been suggested, it was owned by Joshua Hutchinson Hutchinson (b. ca 1829-d.1891) , who died in 1891. The entry has therefore been corrected.
