The Thompson catalogue described the subject as follows:

'No. 247. Basin-shaped Dish. In the centre a medallion of solidly painted flowers growing from a vase, surrounded by a deep band of ornament; in the hollow four shield-shaped medallions alternately ornamented with implements and flowers, and separated by broad ornamental fillets; on the inner lip involuted blue leaves, ornamented with a lotus, stalks surrounded by conventional flowers and the sacred eye; the whole forming bands of ornament. On the back four panels with fruit divided by fillets, and surmounted by branches and a bird. Diameter, 14 ½ inches.' 1
