Provenance

  • 1885: possibly acquired by Robert Goodloe Harper Pennington (1854 or 1855-d. 1920) for his article on Whistler in the Pall Mall Gazette, or acquired by the editor of that magazine, Charles Morley (1853-1916) .
  • Date unknown: possibly with the art dealer Gustav Nebehay (1881-1935), Berlin (photograph in Witt Collection, Courtauld Institute, London).
  • 1943: bequeathed by Grenville Lindell Winthrop (1864-1943) to the Fogg Art Museum.

Exhibitions
