• 1903: sold at auction, Drouot, Paris, 25 November 1903 (lot 6, repr.) as 'Portrait de Whistler', and bought by William Stephen Marchant (1868-1925) , London art dealer; 1
• 1903: bought by Joseph Pennell (1860-1926) , 11 December 1903;
• 1917: given by Joseph and Elizabeth Robins Pennell (1855-1936) to the Library of Congress.
