The Château de Chenonceau spans the River Cher, near the village of Chenonceaux in the Indre-et-Loire département of the Loire Valley in France. James and Beatrice Whistler were on their honeymoon and may have been staying in Tours. They spent some time in the area: a sketch by Whistler, reproduced above, shows the Château at Chenonceau, as does an etching, Château Touraine [410].
