  • 1870s: possibly given by Whistler to his neighbour Emilie Venturi (1821–1893) ;
  • 1893-1969: passed by family descent to her great-nephew, Wyon James Stansfield (1908-1988);
  • 1969: sold at auction, Sotheby's, London, 23 April 1969 (lot 2) as 'A snowy landscape', bought by 'Rhodes' for £680.0.0.

Exhibitions

  • 1874: possibly Mr Whistler's Exhibition, Flemish Gallery, 48 Pall Mall, London, 1874 (cat. no. 24) as 'Snow Piece' (but see Winter landscape [M.0572]).
