  • 1903: in Whistler' studio at his death and bequeathed to Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) ;
  • 1905: said to have been given by her to Edmund F. Deprez (1851-1915) ;
  • 1916: sold at auction, Christie's, London, 8 June 1916 (lot 38) and bought by Colnaghi's, London art dealers jointly with Knoedler's, New York;
  • 1916: sold by Knoedler's to Stephen Carlton Clark (1882-1960) ;
  • 1917: returned and sold to Edward D. Bettens, February 1917;
  • 1917: given to the Fogg Art Museum, 26 February.
