  • 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death, and bequeathed to his ward and executrix, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) ;
  • 1955: bought on 25 June by Colnaghi's, London art dealers;
  • 1955/1956: sold to Alister Mathews (1907-1985), art dealer, Bournemouth;
  • 1957: bought in January by the Library of Congress.
