'The Sloop' was listed by Whistler in 1891, and was probably the same painting as 'Green & Gold, The Sloop', which was recorded in 1897. 1
Green and Gold: The Sloop was catalogued as 'Whereabouts unknown' in 1980. 2
However, it has now (2022) been established that it is the painting known as Blue and Gold: The Schooner [YMSM 276]. This is partly confirmed by a torn label from the verso of the frame of Blue and Gold: The Schooner that bears a partial inscription by Whistler, '… Gold - / the Sloop', and is signed with a butterfly that can be dated to the 1890s.
