Daniel Jerome Elwell, usually known as D. Jerome Elwell (1847-1912) , American landscapist and illustrator, and an old friend of Whistler. He was born in Gloucester, MA, and died in Naples, Italy. His Venetian pastels are similar to – and have been mistaken for – Whistler's work. Elwell accompanied Whistler on holiday to Holland in 1900.
