It was drawn first in pencil, then shaded with short broader graphite strokes. The ink lines are quite bold, done probably with a quill pen, in long lines, curves and shorter zigzags. Finally thick white body-colour was added as highlights, the sky being scrawled with very cursory brushstrokes. The brown card provides a mid-tone.
